Sincerely Wrong

I’ve been hearing the media debate whether the Town Hall protests are genuine or Astroturf. I think they’re pretty genuine. People are really upset and scared. But they’re operating from a set of lies that they’ve been told by the conservative media; Fox News and Limbaugh in particular. So yes, they’re sincere, and yes, they’re being manipulated. I would feel sorry for them if they weren’t doing so much damage to our country’s future.

We're wondering if it's something else, in addition to media lies: FEAR.

It appears that most Americans agreed, in principle, that something needed to be done about healthcare. It was too expensive (and rising dramatically every year), too complicated, and totally inaccessible for many Americans, despite the fact that they were employed full-time.

However, now that a bill has actually been proposed that would CHANGE this situation, everyone is freaked out. Why? Because no one wants to deal with the uncertainty of change.

It's like an out-of-shape person who knows they need to start exercising. They understand what change is needed, they've discussed their options, and they've agreed that they cannot go on in this condition. But when the personal trainer shows up at the door...disaster.

Personally, I'm thrilled that this administration has taken the steps it has and actually put together legislation. That's only been needed for about 20-30 years.
